The Legal Stuff

The Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2021 established several new requirements for providers to protect consumers from surprise medical bills. These requirements are collectively referred to as “No Surprises” rules. Among other things, these require disclosure about health care costs, providing the consumer protections related to establishing and continuing care with a provider.

These requirements generally apply to items and services provided to consumers enrolled in group health plans, group or individual health insurance coverage, and Federal Employees Health Benefits plans. The requirements to not apply to individuals insured with Medicare, Medicaid, Veteran’s Affairs Health Care or TRICARE, as these programs already have protections against high medical bills.

For this reason, DPS lists the Private Pay / Out-of-Network costs for each of our services so that you have a better understanding about the costs of establishing and maintaining care with our practice. Our fees are listed above.

Because each patient is different, the level of care and annual cost of services will vary from patient to patient. It should be expected that patients who have a complex diagnosis and complex medication regimen will require a higher level of care and more frequent appointment sessions. As such, the annual costs of receiving services at Downtown Psychiatric Services can be difficult to calculate.

Patients with a lower acuity and lower complexity of care may expect to spend an average of $1,600 per year for care provided by Downtown Psychiatric Services. This is considering 1 intake session and up to 6 follow-up sessions in one year. Many patients may not require this frequency as stability is achieved.

Patients of higher acuity and requiring a higher level of care may expect to spend an average of $2,800 per year for care provided by Downtown Psychiatric Services. This is considering 1 intake session and up to 10 follow-up sessions in one year.
